Jesus knew that economic and political systems will come and go, and injustice will always be there. He called people to follow Him, not into a political kingdom, but into a spiritual kingdom that will affect everything we say and do. That's the only way to true justice, compassion, and peace. You may do what you wish to participate in democratic society, but the most important thing you can do is to follow Jesus.

I think education needs to be reinvented in this country. What we have now, especially in higher education, is a dinosaur. There should be testing of every person after high school to show what vocational choices would be most suitable, and with these results, an orientation could be given to show what careers are available within the vocational range. This should include a survey of the demand for these careers and the financial potential. With this information, a young person who is motivated could choose a course of education to prepare for the career they prefer.

Mary, Your observation that a murderer forfeits his or her right to life is absolutely spot on. An accused murderer has a right to legally defend himself or herself, but once the verdict is delivered "beyond reasonable doubt" after a court of justice in of the most advanced nations in the world has presented evidence based on the most advanced law enforcement system in the world, with a jury of peers having been persuaded by some of the best trial lawyers in the world , the rights should end immediately! And furthermore, if the accused murderer is found guilty of a terrorist act (with the intent to murder large numbers of innocent men, women and children indiscriminately), in my opinion, even the most basic "Human Rights" should be...
Gadhafi has time on his side. If he waits, the international will to protect his opponents will die down, and then he can bring out the big war machines and clean up. It seems to me that an elite special forces insertion could remove him in short order. Maybe someone is thinking about that.
Even though there may be more freedom of expression and even women's rights, a parliament and a freer judiciary, still there is no religious freedom. Muslims are still in danger of arrest, ostracism, and even death if they dare to convert to another religion. How can any country be a part of the modern world and hold on to religious totalitarianism?
Is there anyone who goes into mosques and just listens to what is being preached and taught? I would love to hear what the average Muslim American is being told, and if they say anything at all about the importance of being responsible citizens and upholding the laws of our country. Are they being taught that our laws are worthless? If so, that explains why they might not stand up and oppose those who want to bring harm to our country.

Is Democracy Viable?

How right you are, Dr Sowell. However, I think that something truly amazing is happening in Islamic lands. The people have long been so fatalistic that they say "it is Allah's will" and allow themselves to be subjugated not only by the totalitarian regimes, but also the totalitarian religion. But these uprisings fly in the face of that fatalism! Surely many Muslims are seeing that they can take personal responsibility for the future, if they can overthrow a dictator who has ruled for decades! Surely the Islamic leaders are nervous about this development. What if a new age of self-determination is being born? What if the dream of the Islamic Caliphate is already crumbling at the foundation? I pray that this is true, and that...

I'm afraid the problem is much more severe than the 24/7 hammering of the public by the left-tilting media. Political brainwashing is happening everywhere from elementary school to the university, and in all kinds of entertainment media. I went to a large aquarium recently and got a big dose of "global warming science" shoved down my throat. We are so immersed in leftist ideology that we can't be saved by a slickly designed "conservative message". Remember, the left specializes in debunking whatever threatens them. Personally I think the only chance of escaping left wing totalitarianism is a broad scale spirtiual revival that would be a total act of God. People's hearts have to change before their eyes can be open. Leftism is...

The WikiLeaks Vindication of George W. Bush

When President Bush spoke after 9/11 and said that the war against terror was now the focus of his administration, he truly stepped up as a national leader should. He took the battle to the enemy, and there was no question that we would do whatever it takes to track down and destroy our foes. The world got the message. The trail of terrorism led to Iraq, and Saddam was implicated on so many levels that WMD was only one of them. Many nations joined us in the conflict to bring Saddam down. We gave a clear, consistent message to the world. Now that message has been compromised and the world has gotten that message, too. Time will tell how we will reap the consequences.
