It's standard practice to place extra requirements in job applications. I have applied for several that stated the minimum requirements were a Masters Degree in Engineering, and 10 years experience in a field that has only existed for around 5 years. The hardest part is making it through the HR tests that ask you to tell them why they shouldn't hire you. If you know the field, and know the company, you can bypass all that malarkey. But, after the interviews, you had better deliver. Most applicants don't do their homework first. If you once get past the HR monkeys, then you have to be able to talk to the people who know what they are talking to you about. Most of the those passing the standard HR can't understand anything about the tech.

give him a break. He probably graduated in a standard BA type program. You expect BOTH reading and understanding?

Current tech would only require a few top end PCs, some software and a spare garage for use as a stage. A crew of say, 15 people is enough. Check out the Blender Movies on the web. It's already happening.

As an Engineer, I find a knowledge of the Calculus to be a very useful and necessary part of my day to day work. The greatest failures I have seen are caused by ignoring mathematics in daily work. Examples would include the failures of the two lost Space Shuttles, the collapse of the walkway in Kansas City, any of a number of bridges over the last two hundred years. The lists are long and painful. When I was in College, and even today from those I know who are going through it, while Colleges generally are pouring out 'liberal Studies' majors in record numbers, Engineering Colleges have a great deal of room for more students in all grades above Freshman. It's pretty much the same in Physics and Chemistry.
Detroit is in financial trouble because the Detroit city Government would rather be in financial trouble than do what is needed to get out of trouble. yes, people who want free stuff don't want to pay the bills, but, the bills have to be paid. Detroit, and Michigan generally will probably ask the US government to bail them out. That won't happen while Bohener is in the Speakers chair. Also, if Detroit gets bailed out, expect to have to also bail out Chicago, New York, Newark, and California. But, Detroit could fix things quickly, if they were willing to. First, foreclose on all properties with more than 5 years back taxes owed. Municipalities can do this, and most do. Then, sell the properties at auction. Each year, sell another block.
The Romans controlled about 1/4 of what is now Germany, and about 1/2 of Austria for a little over 150 years. Withdrawing from those two areas, around 300 AD is what triggered the fall of the Roman Empire. The Goths came from Austria, where they had been Roman Citizens, and ran to Italy for protection when the Huns came in. The Vandals invaded what is now France from Roman Germany to escape from the same Huns. It was all caused by reducing the Army to pay for more social programs (Bread and Circuses). When the emergency came, the Army that had protected Rome and it's empire for a thousand years was just not there any more. These moves included pulling out of Britain. refugees from Britain became the Brittany region of modern France.
A Meteor is a 'shooting star'. if it hit's the ground it's then a meteorite. A meteor does no damage, so, no, praying for a shooting star for a President is not illegal, as no one is harmed. It's only a meteorite that could do damage. As for the current President, if he were hit by a meteorite, it would certainly make him famous. As a second term President, he is looking for how he will make his mark on History. No one in History has ever been killed by a meteorite, and only a few people have ever been hit by one. That would certainly make President Obama famous, but would probably be no more dangerous than being shot by a BB gun. We of course would not want to wish any physical damage to this or any other President, Right???
This was the source of the rumors that the Kennedy Fortune was based on Rum Running. It wasn't. It was based on insider trading at a time before that became illegal. Joseph Kennedy certainly make a lot of money from that single (legal) run, but he was already quite rich from making J.P. Morgan richer.
Not Exactly. The Kennedy fortune was made by Joseph Kennedy, the father of John and Teddy. Joseph Kennedy was the front man for J.P. Morgan, the banker, who also bankrolled Thomas Edison. Kennedy would start rumors on stock hikes for stocks Morgan owned a lot of, then they would sell high. He would also bad mouth stocks that Morgan wanted to buy, driving the stocks up. He became known as the 'Wolf of Wall Street'. The original. Much of this sort of manipulation became illegal in the late 1920's and early 1930's. Joseph Kennedy always operated just inside the law. When Prohibition was repealed, Kennedy was the US Ambassador to Great Britain. He got that job to get him out of Wall Street. It is rumored that he was responsible for the crash
