Great way to sum up how the left operates.

This was a great article.

Thanks for putting things into perspective for us.
The founders had no problem taking Sunday off from Congressional work as most everyone was a Christian and celebrated the sabbath on that day.

This only proves that almost all were Christian and had no problem with references to God in public places such as court houses and the Congress itself.
Christmas means a "mass for Christ." Like it or not, our government's recognition of that day as a holiday, which means "holy day" is a recognition of Christ's birthday, as celebrated on that day.

Also, the reason so many people during that time did not work on Sunday is they were almost all Christians.

By admitting that the constitution recognized Sunday as a day where people did not work, you admit they were upholding the 4th Commandment.

You can't get out of it. You just prove they were almost all Christians that allowed for free expression of Christian worship and traditions in the Constitution.
..."more like a Deist." Jefferson and Franklin both were not as harsh towards Christianity as Paine, but they were also not strong Christians like Washington, Adams, Henry, Madison and the rest.
Jefferson's Christianity was a rationale Christianity as he called it. That means he saw Christ from an intellectual perspective.

Well Jefferson was closer to a Christian than a the two Deist's who were founders (Franklin and Paine), I think Chuck was on to something when he said Jefferson was more like a Deist in his practice.

Believing that rights come from God does not contradict Deism. They believed God created us and then left us alone. God could have given men rights and left them alone.

Of Course, Franklin and Jefferson believed that God did involve himself in the Revolution. I guess you can call them neo-Deists where Paine was a classical Deist.
He was certainly a conflicted man, but what a mind. Social scientists believe Jefferson had a 170 IQ.
attending the service on Sunday's in the Rotunda. Not exactly the same Separation of Church and State the ACLU claims Jefferson meant.

Jefferson, while President, ordered the Rotunda, which is the inside of the Capitol, to be to used on Sunday for the Capitol church service.

He even ordered the Marine Corp band to play the worship service.

How's that for the misguided understanding of the Separation of Church and State.

Since my first post on this discussion page while at work on Friday, a lot has gone on.

I especially enjoyed reading the debate between L, Chuck and Donjindra.

I think You Got Mail said a lot of great things by stating you had to know the time to understand the founders.

Jefferson was a intellectual Christian, not a sold out evangelical like most of the founders.

Chuck gets it right when he says that Jefferson embraced Christian teaching but acted more like a Deist in his daily walk.

That all sums it up well.
