What's WRONG with a welfare receiver traveling via hitchhiking to see family in a different state to visit? Is a homeless person just supposed to stay in Los Angeles pushing a shopping cart full of stuff...drinking himself into yet ANOTHER coma feeling sorry for himself, while he smells like armpits and urine...or maybe a homeless service allows him to use a phone, and he finds his 10 year old daughter just wants to meet him...why NOT hitchhike to go see her...MAYBE he will find motivation in his little girl's eyes and turn around his life! Forcing homeless and poor people to simply remain on one area can wind up DESTROYING a human who could be salvaged....so their are some abusers??? Should we make gun ownership more restrictive because of a few abusers??? We need clear headed solutions, not to make other people's lives more unbearable!

What gave you the idea that anyone hitched any where?

What's wrong with the idea that people who live off other people's work ought to both be grateful for what they've been given and make wise and careful use of it?

Why are we not requiring able bodies people to perform some work for the welfare they take? There are lots of highways that need cleaning up, lots of trash to be picked up, lots of public toilets that need cleaning. Work should be a requirement unless the person who is getting public assistance is actually too disabled to perform any useful tasks. (I don't mean the obese taker who rides his tax payers paid for scooter around all day.I mean someone who is actually seriously disabled.)

Oops - that should be "able bodied"...
