Ah yes, you are correct, there are many countries that are not state sponsors of terrorism, but when you have a nominee who believes Israel and the terrorist in Gaza are morally equivalent there is an issue. When you have a candidate for Secretary of Defense who has demonstrated a nonchalant attitude towards Iran's nuclear weapons program, there is an issue. When the current Secretary of Defense says sequestration cuts would be disastrous to our military and our national security, and the nominee to the post sees no problem with slashing the Defense budget as proposed, you have an issue. And when you have a President, who ran on the promise of the US not turning its back on Israel and he nominates Hagel, you have a problem.

With the nomination of Chuck Hagel, President Obama put a thumb in the eye of Republicans and supporters of Israel.  Then he nominated Jack Lew to Treasury, a guy who has had a terrible relationship with Hill Republicans, managing to anger both John Boehner and Mitch McConnell during negotiations.

But just as significant are the names of the Cabinet secretaries Obama has asked to stay on: Eric Holder as AG, Kathleen Sebelius at HHS, and Eric Shinseki at VA.
