I hate Socialism as much as anyone,I feel it robs us of our independence and dignity. However,I regret to inform you that most of our Western allies basically have Socialist forms of government. Countries like Sweden and Finland are totally Socialist and enjoy higher standards of living . In fact, we live in a essentially socialist country here when you consider SSI,Medicare,Welfare,VA benefits,public education,farm subsidies,bank bailouts,the millions who are employed by the government,military etc -get the idea? Since I retired from business I have been teaching at an inner city high school. It has been a learning experience to say the least -most of it positive. However,it has become clear to me that we need more strong willed men in public education. This is no knock against the thousands of strong willed women who are presently carrying the load but sometimes the little girls (or the strong women) don't understand. What's most troubling to me is the way fights are handled on campus. Currently our kids are being arrested and sent to court for the smallest schoolyard scuffles under a zero tolerance program. Chuck is right on this one. It is up to us to take care of ourselves both physically and financially. I have never accepted Medicare handouts from big goverment an never will. Doing so only proves Obama's point that we need a nanny state to baby us until we die.Furthermore, I have donated my SSI payments to a local veterans group ever since I was paid back in full with interest (for most of us this occurs after 25 months of payments - the rest is welfare! don't sell your dignity ). I am calling on all real conservatives to stop accepting Medicare, SSI or any other type of welfare payment from Obama. By accepting this blood money we are giving tacit approval to his plans to destroy the healthcare industry and replace it with a VA or Medicare type plan.
