Here's the skinny for the Republicans. Obama and the media will always blame the GOP. Boehner and McConnell simply need to walk away from Obama's "plan". Let the economy free fall over that "cliff". Everyone's taxes will increase on the first paycheck in January and then the bitching will commence. Once Obama and the Dems hear the screaming from the "not-2%" - Boehner will get the deal without raising taxes on anyone. Now, there's a lot of comments on why Buffett should or could pay more taxes, but the reality is: Raising the taxes on those small businesses like Obama is campaigning about (those with incomes over $250K and including FatCats like Buffett) will simply equal less investment in jobs. No Taxes for ANYONE now.

Republicans have been forced into a Hobson's choice of either letting the Bush tax cuts expire for everyone or agreeing to a tax hike on the top 2 percent of income earners (not to be confused with "the rich," who have already made, inherited or married their money).

If Republicans object to the Democrats' hitting job creators with a tax hike, three things will happen: Taxes will go up for everyone; Republicans will be seen as the "party of the rich"; and the inevitable economic collapse will be blamed on Republicans.
