You missed three very obvious choices: Paul Ryan(R-WI), Bobby Jindal(Governor), and Allen West(R-FL), with West being the best choice. He brings a minority face and a strong military background - two things Romney could use help with. Paul Ryan strengthens the hand on the economy, but isn't really going to get him into other demographics. Jindal also brings a strong limited-government approach and a great back story, but he may be more valuable (as with Chris Christie) as a Governor. The problem with almost everyone mentioned in the article is that they really don't supplement Romney in any major voter category. Jeb Bush would be a nightmare and give credibility to Obama's "This is Bush's fault narrative."

With Mitt Romney all but universally acknowledged as the GOP certain nominee, attention has quickly and rightly turned to speculation about the former Massachusetts governor’s running mate.

I say “rightly” because not only will the choice greatly impact the election result, it could also profoundly shape American history if that choice were to become the president on short notice.
