Nothing like the sight of the officers and crew rowing off in life boats to instill confidence among the passengers.

The great thing about individual liberty is that when we screw up, we tend to it in our own time and way,. And like Brownian motion, it mostly cancels out in society as a whole. But when a government screws up, it's all in one direction. There's no cancellation, no destructive interference. Everything is in phase, and the results can be horrific.

To err is human, to really screw up takes a village - er, government.
Townhall had a great opportunity to run a headline screaming "Mississippi Bans Slavery!". Okay, it would be factually incorrect, but when how often do such chances arise?

What's with pillow displays these days? The first thing many customers do when they enter their hotel rooms is find some place to throw all of the ornamental pillows. In my opinion, the hotel hallway's a good place.

The really good businesses not only constantly monitor customer satisfaction, they reply to it and act on it. I would hope that even Boards of Directors sometimes discuss "What do our customers like and dislike about our hotels?" That's a hope. I suspect that, given the hotels I've stayed at, most don't.

The more time you spend in hotels, the more finicky you get. Which is just fine, given that they often charge hundreds of dollars per night. As an example, a room I stayed in recently provided an iron and ironing board, but the only plug in was across the room behind the furniture. Such seemingly minor things make a difference. If I ran a hotel, no one would check out without being asked (verbally), "How could we have made your stay better?" Failing to ask risks leaking customers, as annoyances are allowed to persist.
The real purpose of Romney's charity is to say to people "See how I am trying to help? You should too." Leading by example. True leadership, in other words.
Romney could not have bought better advertising.
The biggest war on women is a mismanaged economy. Perhaps that message is getting through.
