A pro-life president would - Draft a pro-life constitutional amendment and post it online for all Americns to read. Summon a meeting of pro-life congressmen to put together a strategy for getting congress to submit the amendment to the states. Summon a meeting of governors to work out a strategy for getting the amendment ratified. Declare that he will nominate only pro-life justices for federal benches. If liberals and progressives cry "Litmus test!" - eff them. "Voting pro-life" would mean voting for a candidate with spine & principles like that. Good luck finding one.

Personhood amendments have failed in every state they've been presented. So has a constitutional amendment. Is that really all we want in a president?

I suspect they failed for lack of strong leadership. If a pro-life president will put the right to life on the front burner of his administration and actually get out and LEAD, there will be followers.

As it is, a president's "pro-life policy" amounts to "Have I mentioned the right to life in a speech yet this month? Okay, check. Hey speechwriters - give me another pro-life statement in a month or so. We have to keep the base in line, you know."

In a rather blunt and significant letter to parishoners, the Bishop of the Diocese of Green Bay, Wisconsin urged Catholics to vote for candidates in line with Catholic doctrine on life and family issues. While Bishop David Ricken didn't name names, his letter clearly indicated a party preference merely on the basis of the positions he urged Catholics to support.
