Unfortunately, this is a battle we lost a long time ago. In the early 70's, I remember arguing with a fellow German lit student about the use and teaching of "black" English in the "public" schools. (I was against this as well as bilingual, Spanish-English, education.) What I saw then, the beginnings of multi-culturalism, declining standards (i.e. affirmative action), lack of discipline, etc. kept me from going into teaching. Thank God I did! (I probably would have taught Chemistry or German...my degree is German with minors in Chemistry and Math. I am only 14 or so units away from a B.S. in Chemistry.)
