For most citizens of sub-Sahara Africa, being black has no value, doesn't mean much of anything, but ethnicity does, that is, tribes, as the massacres in Rwanda, maybe like the different black gangs in Chicago or LA. In his first book Obama is on a quest to find his true identity and decides he is black, because he is treated by everyone as black. I don't know what that means, being treated black, but I do know it's wrong to go along with calling them African-Americans--an insult to us all that we must speak their race in calling them Americans.

We were talking about people in the US who have dark skin, most of whom don't have heritage in Africa, and even those who can trace their lineage back to Africa must go through a few generations of family in Jamaica, Cuba, Dominion Republic, etc.
IOW, we are talking about people who ignorantly refer to themselves as something they aren't.
