Did the Brothers Tsarnaev Fail?

I'm reminded of all the movies I've seen portraying outlaws as heroic figures, such as Jesse James or Billy the Kid. Did the Marathon bombers succeed in being perceived as heroic? Well, yeah, to some people they did. We should not forget in our conflict with Islam terrorists, that Islam is a religion that strongly upholds masculinity--Mohamed is no pacifist Jesus. Western civilization has very much emasculated the male. Masculinity is human nature, not some cultural artifact.

I wouldn't say it "upholds masculinity" so much as it just oppresses women. Which part of hiding behind women and children in order to maximize civilian casualties on your own side is "masculine"?

Islam as it is practiced has no redeeming qualities.

Well said, Kimbery. And in the long run of history it was Christian based culture that became strong and dominant as Islam became weak and dysfunctional, reduced to the status of sneaking deliberate killers of innocent people like roaches scuttling around in the dark.

True, what you said about the long run of history--but things change. We see the West crumbling and Christianity fading today, while Islam grows stronger and more dominant. Our only advantage is technology. That's why Iran wants a nuclear bomb so badly. If we really had any advantage in ideology--our way of life--don't you think the muslims would have already accepted that, instead of hating and attacking us?

Yeah, I understand all that you say. I'm making the distinction that some people will perceive the Marathon bombers as heroic. And that the prophet of Islam, Mohamed, was a warrior chieftan with l4 wives, including a 9yr old girl, whereas Jesus was a kind-hearted, pacificist bachelor. I would think plenty of young males would fall in line with Mohamed, not Jesus. Because masculinity is human nature, and not some cultural conditioning.
"Whatever they thought they could ultimately achieve, they've already failed," says President Obama of the Boston Marathon bombers.

"They failed because the people of Boston refused to be intimidated. They failed because as Americans we refuse to be terrorized."

Bostonians did react splendidly. From first responders to folks who gave blood, from hospital staffs to the FBI, ATF and state troopers, from the Boston and Watertown cops to the hostage rescue team that talked Dzhokhar Tsarnaev out of that boat.

But did the Brothers Tsarnaev really fail -- as terrorists?

On Sunday's talk shows, a sub-theme was that this had been...
