As a teacher in a large midwestern inner city school I can understand some of the frustration with merit and merit pay. Here is why I say that; I may be the best thing in the classroom since sliced bread but I do need a little help from mom and dad, a guardian or somebody. That being said I would also like to earn 74,00 a year. So, I say shut up to the CTU and get back in there and do the best you can. If you don't like it just remember the schools of today stem from the liberal morality that has spawned them. Get a different job if you can't take the heat. WalMart is calling.

Good for you Lou, this is the PROBLEM, most of these children don't have a Mom and Dad, usually it is just a Mother.
There is a problem when they have children only for benefits, and don't parent. Did they read to their child? Teach them their alphabet and numbers before they even went to school? Or were they too busy puffing the weed, doing drugs, and having unprotected sex to propagate more children. This is where the "great society got us". Children with no morals or parents that don't parent.

Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis walks, talks and barks like a rootsy Occupy Wall Street activist. But this Big Labor loudmouth who's leading the abandonment of nearly 400,000 schoolchildren in the Windy City is just another power-grabbing union fat cat.

Instead of academic excellence, she rails about "social justice." Instead of accountability, she fumes about "profits" and curses merit pay. Lewis has marched with the Occu-clowns denouncing capitalism and promoting "socialism (as) the alternative." She raves: "Occupy Wall Street and the whole concept of the 99 percent is an extraordinarily important movement."

And she earned praise as a...
