Slave labor was no more beneficial to the South than it is to any other country which is using it today (all of which are third world). We would all be much better off it slavery had never existed (i.e., blacks had not sold their rivals into slavery and the British had not brought them to their new colony) and all Southern plantation owners had used hired help, as many of them did. And by the way, America was built by entrepreneurs - unskilled labor could have come from anywhere in the world and it would have made no difference.

Why not just have every one of those tankers from China -that are flooding our shores with uncontested imports -just load up illegal laborers every time they come here to America -I am sure they have a strong desire to come here also and only have an ocean to keep them from doing so in mass-Mexico only benefits from a shared border situation -how is that fair ? Then we could really have a cheap labor war here in America -hey I believe I am on to something -I may have solved the Fiscal Cliff and the Union trouble makers in one fell swoop !

Republicans have been forced into a Hobson's choice of either letting the Bush tax cuts expire for everyone or agreeing to a tax hike on the top 2 percent of income earners (not to be confused with "the rich," who have already made, inherited or married their money).

If Republicans object to the Democrats' hitting job creators with a tax hike, three things will happen: Taxes will go up for everyone; Republicans will be seen as the "party of the rich"; and the inevitable economic collapse will be blamed on Republicans.
