We have tried the sales tax here in Texas and it is simple and it works. The complexities of the income tax code are there, not because everything else has been tried and found wanting, it is because it serves the interests of the craven, greedy scum who write the laws and are in a position to give favorable treatment to particular groups - for a price. At the same time they are claiming to be using the tax code to punish those very groups.

?What? An income tax is inherently complex. There are literally thousands of ways to generate income and they all need to be defined in the Code - or so think the low-life scum who believe in punishing the successful by use of the tax code. Another reason for the tax code's complexity is to make it possible to make a criminal out of every citizen if the need arises - if the citizen gets too uppity for the government's comfort we'll slap him with a series of audits 'till he learns his lesson. Let's repeal the Income Tax Amendment and implement a national sales tax - as in the Fair Tax or some such. We could call it The Hooker, P**p and Undocumented Worker Tax Act.

My dishwasher has lights (easy to see) that indicate progress: Washing, Drying, Finished. And it is quiet so I can hear the TV now. The one before was so noisy it interfered with normal conversation in the next room (only a slight exaggeration).
