That study concludes "an alarming percentage of young people are highly materialistic, commitment averse, disengaged from political and civic life, sexually irresponsible, often heavily intoxicated and morally confused." But they don't offer any evidence that this generation is different from any other. That list sounds more like a symptom of being 20 years old than of my particular generation.

Fetuses are human. To say otherwise would be just silly (they aren't cows, after all). But that isn't the end of the abortion debate. There are other issues to consider. And Darwin had a theory that was proven by the facts. We may discover in the future that his theory missed important details or was wrong in some way. That's how science works. Science offers useful theories, but not objective or absolute truth.

We do have a lot to be proud of. But we also have to remain vigilant to ensure we don't repeat past mistakes or make new ones.

You should have went to a different school yourself if you honestly think good grammar correlates to good morals.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't give your life for your country, but there is a big difference between believing in universal moral truths and wanting to sacrifice your life for your nation. Quakers would never join the military to fight for their country, but you wouldn't accuse them of having no moral truths.

The textbook is trying to teach that exact lesson - that though what the Aztecs were doing was wrong, the Europeans were there to commit genocide. That is ALSO wrong.

I strongly believe that there are many absolute moral principles every society should abide by. Things like murder, rape, imprisonment of the innocent, torture, slavery and child abuse are never acceptable. They are always morally wrong. I'm an atheist liberal, by the way.

"No, he protested, the only civilization that is self-critical -- at all -- is our own. Other world civilizations continue to express pride and even arrogance about their own histories." I agree, the obliviousness she shows in these two sentences really is staggering.

I learned all about that stuff. But then I had good history teachers. Then again, Cortez wasn't there to stop the totally immoral slaughter of Aztecs in the names of their gods. He was there to kill off their rulers and plunder their cities.

Rape is wrong no matter where it takes place. I don't think any real person would argue that with you.
