Obama hates profit, but he doesn't seem to mind royalties.

He said he was going to spread the wealth around, and that is what he is doing. No big surprise here. I'm just wondering what happened to "equal protection" under the laws, with all of these targeted taxes and exemptions.

Will the labyrinthine form 1040 soon have different calculation paths based on race, ethnicity, union membership, and voting preference? Or will they accomplish their wealth spreading by adding new columns to the tax table (i.e., married Democrat, married Union Democrat, single Republican, etc.)?

Obama's "Reform" And Clinton's Heart

I have health insurance through work. My 45 year old wife, a mother of two toddlers, was diagnosed with stomach cancer 7 months ago. She has been kept alive by doctors (her oncologists), pharmaceutical companies (who make the chemotherapy drugs and the biotech wonder drugs used to stimulate white blood cell production), and medical device companies (who made the port implanted in her chest for her multiple infusions.)

I have nothing but respect and appreciation for these people and corporations, and it has annoyed my to no end to listen to Obama denigrate them one and all.
Last night while flipping through channels on the TV I saw the last few seconds of a paid political advertisement FEATURING OUR SITTING PRESIDENT pushing for health care reform. I have never seen anything like this in the 30 years or so that I have been paying attention to politics. It used to be that if a President wanted to persuade the public on a policy matter, he held a press conference. Now he buys air time through some PAC called Americans for sTABLE Health care, or the like. Has any President EVER done something like this before? Somehow it seems unethical, if not illegal. If not that, at least cheap and phony.

Immigrant Values

Living (and working, and paying taxes) in California, I have had the opportunity to work with many first generation immigrants, mostly Mexican and Asian (Vietnamese, Lao, Cambodian). I am unaware of their legal status, and I hope and assume that most of them are legal immigrants. It is my experience that these people are thrilled to be in this country, show up to work every day, work hard every minute that they are being paid, accept every hour of overtime available to them, and save their money for their children's' future. I am all for getting rid of anyone, native born or not, protected class or not, who free-loads off the taxpaying American public, but who can help but admire people who work their tails off to make a better life...

Global Warming as a Political Tool

Ben534 Wrote: Dec 11, 2009 11:22 AM
I have a proposal to solve "Global Warming".

All those who believe in Global Warming should immediately cut off their home utilities (gas and electric), quit driving their automobiles or using any form of internal combustion transportation, and stop buying or using any industrially made products or foodstuffs. Can't ride a bike either - the steel and rubber were made using carbonaceous energy sources. In other words, if you hate modern technology and all it has done in the world, quit using it. It's a free country. No one will force you to burn carbon if you don't want to (unlike buying health insurance).

Then let the rest of us live our lives in peace and stop proseletyzing us with your religion.
