Wrong on all three. 1) Don't dodge the question. If you don't have an opinion or don't know, just say so. If you do, stand up for what you believe. 2) Yes, but his vision for America's future is radically different than mine. 3) That is a question for Mr. Obama. There is enough political and policy ground to cover without venturing into the ungentlemanly/unladylike territory of speculation regarding another man's faith.

Is Liberalism Exhausted?

Liberalism is a byproduct of tranquility, for lack of a better word. When surrounded by relative ease, comfort, and security, liberalism has time to fester. Contrast that to times of distress, struggle, and danger when people tend to focus on the basics, the necessities, and suddenly they become very conservative. Our economy is lousy, our freedoms are being trampled here at home, and foreign threats are mounting. Also, conservatism is on the rise. Once we recover from all this, and Americans always do, we will slip back into forgetfulness of what got us into this mess and the practical, conservative mindset that will get us out, and liberalism will see its resurgence.
If there is to be a civil war, for lack of a better term, in the US, it will break along the general lines drawn in this article. Unfortunately, the two cultural/social/philosophical camps appear, at least to me, to mirror ethnicity lines making it far too easy to say it is (or will be) a race war when it has nothing to do with inherited race at all.

Mob Rule Economics

The situation is going to get a whole lot worse in the near future. Consider: automation is pointed to as displacing masses of manufacturing jobs. Now technology is toying with driver-less cars, trains, trucks and ships. We are starting to see robotic food service in some chains. Just how long will it be before all those stock clerks at Walmart, grocery stores, and other no-brainer/warm-body jobs are redundant to cheaper and more efficient drones? If these people can't grasp that their lack of marketable skills isn't worth $15/hr, what will become of them when those same unmarketable skill sets are bringing in $0/hr?
