I think you misread her sarcasm, tough guy. Sorceress clearly supports concealed carry.

Maybe. But, by rough calculations, a Soldier with just 3 years and the rank of specialist (junior enlisted) gets over $60,000, tax-free, when you include basic pay, combat zone incentive, housing allowance, and health insurance for their whole family. A captain (junior officer) gets about $100,000. And a two-star general nearly $200,000. Plus, $500,000 life insurance for about $25 per month. So, maybe the average isn't as much as an O.C. firefighter. But, frankly, the market value of the military professional is probably a bit less because it's easier to get in (you just pass a physical and a few simple mental tests, and you're in), and because the free ammo and the license to kill has some value to young men that isn't monetized. Also, you can retire in 20 years and have a lifetime salary and health insurance, and many other benefits. And (although I think Soldiers would be better off with just the cash), the education benefits are very valuable: tens of thousands to repay student loans, and the GI Bill that pays you to go to school even after you're out. So, overall, Soldiers do get compensated more than it might seem.

I guess so! It was rude and unnecessarily crass for me to say that. But, if you read the rest of my post, this is about value judgments, not facts in dispute.

I usually like Daniel Mitchell's columns, but I find it absurd that he's picking on firefighters for making more than the average government bureaucrat. Firefighters aren't bureaucrats. Their job, at your beck and call, is to run inside a burning house when anyone with any sense is trying to get out and away from it. They bring ladders and climb up on top of a house that's fully involved in flames so they can pound a hole in the roof and save what's inside. They literally get burned frequently, because they run towards the fire, not away from it. They have incredible amounts of equipment that they maintain meticulously with military discipline. Daniel, you're sounding like a jerk. $250,000, including all benefits, is just fine for someone to devote his time for a year to train and wait for you to call him in distress when minutes count and people are threatened with a horrible death. All of them are trained on first first aid, too, which is why you see them get called to every car accident, heart attack, etc., so they can save lives before the ambulances get there.

Here's the thing, Troubled_Californian. MSNBC fixed it already. If you go to the site itself, you can see they put this at the bottom of the article that accompanies the short video: "Editor’s note: This story has been amended from the original version to clarify the context of the remarks; the original video has been replaced with a fuller version." I too thought the same thing you did for just a split second, when I realized it seemed to be exactly the same. I even said it out loud to myself: "They fixed it already." I remembered what the left-wing propagandists do when they get caught lying to us, and that's just fix it and say little more, then take their shot again the next time they want to malign any of the non-believers.
Brainless turd, ranma2.
