Please remember, the Word of Wisdom was not given as a commandment. That was changed later just as the temple ordinances have been changed many times over the years. It is very well documented that Joseph Smith enjoyed cigars and wine until his dying day and there are many references to him being seen riding through Nauvoo drunk and smoking. Also remember, he denied being involved in polygamy and polyandry in public speeches right up to his death.

Dear csmedley. I probably know as much or more about the church as anyone. No one was more active than I was or loved the church more. My 6 years as bishop were very special. But truth is truth and facts are facts. I am not anti-mormon. If the LDS church is where someone feels comfortable and gets closer to God and Christ then that is wonderful. But as for me, now that I know the true history of the church and how it came about I cannot in good conscience continue as a member for I would be living a lie. I shall not try to persuade you or anyone else that the church is false. The internet is chock full of documented evidence and is there for anyone who wants to take the time to do the research.
