Love, love, love "The Emperor's New Clothes" and have used that analogy many times myself. This is the first time in my 50+ years that I have heard people who think they are so incredibly intellectual call those who do not agree with them names, e.g. if you aren't crazy about this Prez, you must be "stupid." Now that's a really intellectual argument, huh. Anway, re tonight's address, there's a great summary of key points of the healthcare reform bill on my website, http://www.boomer-ville.com, plus some interesting comments from boomers. I remember JFK's push on fitness as well, and I think it was a good thing. There is nothing wrong with any leader encouraging children to work hard and stay in school. I do think this administration, however, is building a track record that does not promote trust. Look at Rangel, a tax cheat, in charge of tax law, and the list goes on and on. Thus, what I wonder, is whether this "good speech" is a way to repair the damage done by other mistakes, or worse, distract us from the liberal health care debacle. Wake up, people. Don't assume a good speech means good motives. See what other baby boomers are saying about the speech at http://www.boomer-ville.com and click on the School icon.

I agree that the money to cover an additional 45 million or so has to come from somewhere, and since boomers have outlived thier usefulness, why not take it from them. By the way, how old is old, and what will these same people be saying when they are old. Sounds like Logan's Run to me.

Totally agree...the comment was a reality and a distraction, unfortunately. If there is rationing controlled by the government, these types of decisions will be controlled by the government.

Thank you for trying to eliminate excess emotion, but emotion does rise when it's your turn, doesn't it.

We're trying hard to find out what is really being said here...but that's the point as well. Why be in such a hurry that misconceptions run rampant???

Why are we not hearing more about the fact that AARP sells the kind of insurance that tons of people will be forced to use if Obamacare passes? Regular insurance companies will go out of business, but the AARP stands to make a fortune. A little conflict of interest here?

To Ron at 11:24:
Do you have an article on this? This is an example of what my old high school Social Studies teacher used to say: "Absolute power corrupts absolutely."

I would like to post this on my website.

Please email me at info@boomer-ville.com, or go to

http://www.boomer-ville.com and post it in the comment box on the Daily News page.

I want to see what people have to say about it.

Scary. Really scary.
My father fought in WWII for a country with the Constitution as it's foundation. He is rolling in his grave. He was a democrat, but the democratic party is no longer what it was.

Here's a suggestion for Mr. Emmanuel and all of his office mates, and their congressional friends attending private strategy meetings in the White House, while they accuse others of being anti-American:

How about we ask our congressman to add an amendment to the health care bill that REQUIRES that the President and all members of congress be mandated to go on the same health care plan they are proposing. Why should they be on a different plan? Let's start a grass roots (no astro-turf, please) movement that demands this.

Maybe the name...

How about we all call our congressmen and suggest that an amendment be added to this health care bill that REQUIRES that congressmen be on this plan. It would take a courageous Republican to propose this, but it would almost certainly guarantee that they would rethink the bill.

There seems to be no other explanation about what the bill holds in terms of reduction of funds for Medicare than reduction of services for seniors. Baby boomers make up a huge block of voters, and I agree with "M" that they have contributed a large part of what government funds are now available.
