Generalizations are suspect even when you AREN'T obviously ignorant of the relevant stats. The real scandal, in a species with a sense of proportion, would've been "Children are twice as safe with unmarried men who are not their relatives as they are with their mother's husbands or boyfriends"—40% of all sex-abuse is by fathers, stepfathers, or mothers' boyfriends. That some bishops covered for abusers and thought they were cured, is a disgrace to the church. The abuse itself only disgraces the individual culprits.

Because the Roman Catholic Church adamantly defends life in the womb, the oldest and most infirm and the institution of marriage, it has legions of foes spread throughout major media. Those critics will surface repeatedly between now and the selection of the new pope to use the occasion to sling their stones. It is a fun time, really, since they know almost nothing of which they speak, and their agenda journalism is of so little consequence unlike the MSM's recent interventions in the presidential election.
