Yet another insightful essay written by the brilliant Dr. Sowell. If only he would run for President. As a Japanese-American, I know that cultural influences have a lot to do with scholastic success. Blacks and Latinos who study hard do just as well. Unfortunately, stupid policies like this Berkeley one, Affirmative Action, etc. bring down the very minorities they profess to want to help. And the condencension of these do-gooders is sickening.

You raise an interesting point. I don't have the complete answer but a few years ago, some educators in California got the bright idea that EVERYONE should go to college and be in the college track. So instead of going into physical labor and the trades, you have an ignorant young population who think that they are too good for this kind of job. In fact, if you even SUGGEST this opportunity to a minority kid you are being "racist". Even though this kid might be a fine plumber and make $80 an hour with the possibility of hiring others and having his own business. People in the trades have gone to high schools literally begging for apprentices and there is very little interest in spite of the financial rewards with no college.

Mr. Williams may be a little tired of this subject but it is new to some people and good for me to hear all over again. I grew up in a mostly black neighborhood in the 60's and 70's. In those days, the majority of my black classmates had a mom and dad at home married to each other. The ones who applied themselves in school were very successful, and as Mr. Williams has pointed out, there was more racism in those days than now. In those days, I heard that you had to be twice as good as a White to even get in the door. While very unfair, it certainly made for some strong Black candidates! I weep when I go to my old Los Angeles neighborhood, now riddled with graffiti and gang activity. Liberalism is the new slavery. Good intentions...

Getting the News, Weekly

Last year during the presidential elections, I was sent a 6 months "free" subscription to Newsweek. (apparently I bought something online which provided this promotion) I received the first copy with, yet again, Obama on the cover. I called to cancel immediately & the person in charge of subscriptions was surprised that I would cancel something that was free. Well, junk is junk and I did not want this magazine to take up space in my house. Will Newsweek ever get a clue?
