Chrysler Alive but Jeep About to Shift Production to China

That's just untrue. The Jeeps that will be built in China will be for the Chinese Market. The ones here will still be built in Toledo. As Sergio Marchionne (CEO of Chrysler) said, “The relationship between Chrysler and Toledo goes beyond numbers and percentages. We have grown up together; we have shared successes and difficult moments, downturns in the economic cycle as well as times of prosperity. Chrysler has become a part of this community’s fabric. And for all of us at Chrysler, it’s a privilege to be part of Toledo’s identity and we will continue to play our part to contribute to this city’s industrial and social development." http://www.allpar.com/news/index.php/2011/05/marchionne-speaks-at-university-of-toledo

"Fiat SpA, majority owner of Chrysler Group LLC, plans to return Jeep output to China and may eventually make all of its models in that country, according to the head of both automakers' operations in the region,"

From the linked article in the Washington Examiner.

Soon,Chrysler will be getting engines, transmissions, and other major components and assemblies from Red China, just doing final assembly here, and calling them "American-built",when their content will mostly be Communist Chinese. Who knows, maybe Red China will ship complete running chassis and body parts, and the US workers can just drop the bodies on the chassis.

You're really going to believe what an CEO tells you? I've had them tell me they're not going to close the plant while the realtors were putting up the for lease sign in the front yard. They won't admit they are closing it until the new plant is ready for production. They know how much sabotage mad workers can do.

Wouldn't be the first time a CEO lied right up until the gates were chained shut.

Does that mean Chrysler won't need a third bailout?
Auburn36 Wrote: Oct 25, 2012 2:48 PM
Chrysler shouldn't. They have been growing at a great rate. Honestly, the only good thing that came out of the bailout was that Chrysler was able to get out of the hands of Cerberus Capital Management and into the hands of Fiat (real car people). Eventhough Fiat is Italian, they understand America and like it here. They're considering relocating their global headquarters to Michigan.

What will the tune be when they close the plant?

They still have unions taking their lunch break, sorry I meant stoner break. Then back to making cars. If they were so happy with the bail out why did they not reform and change their ways. Their acts were enough to get them fired, but the unions protected them, not once but twice on film.

I forgot to include the stop by the liquor store, then stop by the park for a quick joint then back to work. Ah car building is fun.

Fiat understands America? If so, it would be the first time. Fiat, as well as Peugeot, Lancia, Renault, etc have each come and, before too long, gone from here several times over the years, precisely because they DON'T understand the American automobile market. Maybe this time will be better, but poor sales on the Fiat 500 don't seem to bode well.

It will take them a little longer to screw up Jeep and Chrysler, but I have faith in them.

I'm referring to the new Fiat since Marchionne had taken over. The UAW is terrible, that's the truth. However, they are much better than the Italian unions and Italian government. That's why Fiat is considering coming here in the first place. If you look at the products Chrysler has made since Fiat had taken over they really are much improved and it shows sales wise.

I was against the bailout and believed in a strategy like one that Romney had proposed originally. However, that doesn't mean that Chrysler is not in a good position now. As I said before, the Chinese plant will be for the Chinese market. The Toledo plants will be for the US market.

First off, I love Jeeps. I drove a blue stick-shift Jeep in high school and dream of one day owning another one (pre-bailout edition) of course. President Obama has based a large portion of his re-election campaign on the auto-bailout which has resonated with many voters in Ohio, a state Mitt Romney needs to win. However, due to burdonsome regulations, high taxes and the overall high cost of manufacting in the United States, Jeep (owned by Chrysler) production may be shipped overseas to China.
