Israel Fires at Syria

With the disaster that is known as the "Syrian Government" it might be prudent for the Israeli's to wait just a bit to see who it was that actually fired that mortar. It could have been the Syrian army but it also could have been Syrian rebels; perhaps they were thinking that if they could get the Israeli's to respond to the Syrian army the rebels might have a shot at actually defeating them. Or something. Anyway just wait a bit and see. I don't think the IDF would, at this point, have much of a problem with the Syrian army or whatever it is they have left to defend that country.

it could have been an Al-Qaeda or Hezbollah group trying to get Israel embroiled in the Syrian civil war.

Israel has probably the best intelligence network in the world. If they fired back at Syria then I'd say they know who fired at them.

Or something? Israel is not that dumb, this tiny country has existed since 1948, and with God's help and their own capabilities, they will do just fine.

Art meant the REBELS might have a chance of defeating the SYRIAN ARMY if Israel weakened the Army a bit. But as far as i am concerned and I am sure as far as the Israelis are concerned Syria is Syria. They are just fighting over which bloody dictator will lead them.

Interesting take. You might very well be right. In any case, Israel's response seems to have been temperate. Of course, Israel will need good intelligence in order to know if some of the rebels are trying to divert the Syrian army away from savaging them.
One wouldn't think that the rebel's Arab and Turkish backers are sanguine about a strategy that could easily result in many Syrians closing ranks behind the army as it takes in Israel- however futile an undertaking that would be.

Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have fired a warning shot at Syria, after a Syrian shell landed in the Golan Heights for the second time in recent days. This marks the first time Israel has fired on Syria since the 1973 Yom Kippur War. There was only one round of fire shot because there was only one mortar found, but if this continues they will no longer abide by that policy.

A spokesman for the IDF said, “In light of the policy instituted by IDF Chief of Staff, Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz, a warning round was fired back into Syria. We don't...
