America's Choice: Learned Helplessness or Earned Opportunity

Good post Hank. There's a lot of value in having to struggle as most of the generations before us struggled to improve their lives. In some respects the more recent couple of generations have not had to struggle much, in part because the economy was experiencing a 20 plus year boom; and in part because their parents tried to "protect" their kids from the struggles they went through themselves. So kids got what they wanted without much work or effort and began to feel entitled. That last representation certainly does NOT describe everyone, but there are enough "entitled" folks to make us wonder what the hell happened to self reliance and individual responsibility.
