Yeah. . . Riiiight
All I can say on that one, Mark, is "bring it on". We'll see who's laughing in the end.
They are neither "Progressives" or "Liberals". Once upon a time in America, there were such a thing as "Classical Liberalism". Many of our founding fathers were classical liberals. These people are regressives, Marxists, and Leftists. Let's start calling them by what they really are.
The most embarrassing one of all, that you didn't mention was the election of Barack Obama.

Rove Vs. the Tea Party

Mourdock's loss was not attributed to the fact that he was TEA Party backed; nor was it due to the statement that he made about abortion, although that had a little to do with it. Mourdock lost because Richard Lugar, the incumbent Senator, whom he beat in the primary, and Lugar's supporters, failed to support Mourdock, essentially handing the Senate seat over to the Dem's.
Whether or not you believe the wars were constitutional or not, consider the backlash that would have happened if President Bush had not acted in the matter that he did. Considering that most, if not all of the national and international intelligence agencies had concluded that Saddam had WMD, had Bush not have made the decisions that he did, and an attack had happened, many thousands more, if not millions could have been killed. Ron Paul, along with most of the Democrat party would have been screaming about dereliction of duty. Hindsight is 20/20, and I for one am grateful that Bush made the decisions that he did.
While much of what Paul has to say on fiscal and domestic matters was spot on, his view toward foreign affairs, was extremely left wing. That was one of the main reasons that I could have never supported him as a candidate for President.
the reason that his parents remain deeply conservative is simple. Quite frankly they are smarter than you are.
I thought the Republicans had good reason for impeaching Clinton, although I also thought they overreached. In Obama's case, there are already at least three impeachable, (not lying under oath) offenses that I can think of: Fast and Furious; selling guns to Mexican drug cartels, thus declaring defacto war on an ally; Benghazi; some have said that selling guns were involved to Al-queida rebels; breaking of almost every campaign finance law there is, including taking money from foreign nationals; and that is just breaking the surface. If Obama tries to usurp the Constitution with and executive order banning certain kinds of guns, impeachment should hit the house before the ink is dry.
Without the Second Amendment, there wouldn't be a First, Third, fourth and on down the line.
