First of all, I once was convinced that democratic principles and ideals was the innate desire of every human being. I no longer do. I do not want to see any more blood and treasure expended in the dubious notion of nation building. Find our enemies, destroy them and leave. A commitment to establish a democratic republic in Afghanistan is a loser for us. I always thought that our inital thrust into Afghanistan was the right thing to do - we pulverized the Taliban, scattered them and killed many of the al Queda they were supporting. We didn't completely accomplish the mission due to over-reliance on those unreliable, two-faced politicians in Pakistan as well as on Pak forces whose enthusiasm to kill or capture Bin-Laden was...
