maybe you should have voted for the candidate who had planned to cut $1 TRILLION in actual cuts in the first year.

The GOP rank and file does not yet believe that we are broke. They believe we can fool around with the "entitlements" to balance the budget. They LOVE the warfare state. They listen to Limbaugh, Hannity, et al. and have nightmares about Islamic conquest of the world. They think we can police the world and fight continuous wars and still balance the budget -- all while keeping Social Security and Medicare. That is why they rejected Dr. Paul.

Needless to say, the average Republican is a fool. They are completely unaware of the real situation and are unwilling to even find out. But independent voters, especially young voters, are waking up to the truth. Ron Paul would have appealed to them.

billy, there were polls taken to see how well each of the repubican candidates would do head-to-head against obama. the numbers for paul and romney were very close. some polls had paul doing better against obama than romney.

Bonsall Billy - I don't think Ron Paul would've been slaughtered. I believe that Obama got all the votes he could've gotten - do you really think those who voted for Romney would NOT have voted for Ron Paul?

So, what you are saying a-n, is that instead of voting for the team that was demonized for hating the poor because they wanted to slow down the rate of growth in federal spending, we should have voted for the guy who would campaign on cutting the budget by a trillion dollars? If even modest reductions were rejected by the voters in favor of "give me more stuff", what in the hell do you think would have happened to Ron Paul? I like Ron Paul, but seriously......some of his supporters are just unwilling to accept reality. His ideas didn't even sell to enough Republicans to come close to getting the nomination. He would have been slaughtered in the general election..
Yikes, we're headed toward a fiscal cliff! It will crush the economy! Or so the media and politicians tell us.

The "cliff" is a series of tax increases and budget cuts that automatically go into effect Jan. 1 unless Congress acts.

Will Congress act?

It will! I see the future: The politicians will meet and fret and hold press conferences and predict disaster. Then they'll reach a deal.

It will just postpone the reckoning, but they'll congratulate themselves, and the media will move on.

America, however, continues to go broke.
