“If you don't like America and democracy that affords a multiracial man educated enough to become president of the United States of America, then by all means take the next boat out! ………..Join us in making this country the best

Margaret, African Americans have been dying for this country since we been here in America and have sacrificed tons to make “this country best” and prosperous. The southern economy was built on the back of black slaves. In addition to this, African Americans have fought in every war this country has waged even when being excluded from equal rights and citizenship. We still fight today in both wars overseas despite the immorality of both wars- our contribution is well...

“ For those Blacks who prefer Africa (mHom Many are still living in grass shacks, living in poverty. No clean water, no food unless given to them by USA and no Social services. A continent that reeks with corruption”

Boy Margaret you are ignorant. Many of the problems that exist in Africa are byproducts of European/ Arab colonialism, imperialism and slavery. The Atlantic slave trade decimated the population of West Africa while destroying the cultural identity of black Americans leaving many long lasting problems with African Americans and Africa in general. Or what about the Rwandan genocide which has its root causes In French imperialism, colonialism and the divide and conquer of a people. Who do you think created the...
“ We are ALL "racist". Don't believe me? Then tell me - what's the very first thing you notice about a person - any person - you meet, or just see walking down the street? The color of their skin - right? (If you said "wrong" you're deceiving yoursel “

Your comment is absurd.

Noticing someone’s race, culture or ethnicity is not racist. Believing that someone is inferior or deserves to be treated in an inferior manner because of their race or culture is racist. In fact, the very concept of race is a European construct created by racist Europeans who wanted to place hierarchical cultural values on cultural others. Of course they tried to make themselves the most civilized “race” while making cultural others the...
Thank you for at least reading the piece. Gates has 30 years of work like this that's being completly ignored because of this one incident.

I think a man should be judge by his whole lifes work and not just one incident.
"We heard and saw Gates' current attitudes toward race. We have no need to go back 17 years and what his opinions were then."

Of course you won't read the piece. You'd rather relish in your ignorance about Gates based on this one incident, opposed to reading his writing and academic work over career of 30 years to get a real sense of who he is- makes sense with someone like you. You judge a man’s character by the work of his entire life, not just one incident or another. You refuse to educate yourself because you are blissfully happy in your ignorance and bigotry. So sad. And again, Gates didn't break the law. Try again:

For those who think professor Gates is some sort of racist black radical, I urge you to read the following Nytimes piece by Gates and tell me if you honestly feel the same after.

For those who don't know of Gates work-which is probably most of the folk here-I urge you to read the following NT Times oped piece by Gates and honestly tell me if you still think he's some type of black racist radical. Education is the key my friends.

“Blacks owe America reparations. They should begin every day on their knees thanking God that whitey took Kunta Kentay out of Africa and brought him over here.”

It’s Kunta Kinte- get it right even though you are going to disparage black history like that.

“Had that not happened, they wouldn’t be here living free, bebopping the hood with bling, cruisin’ around in Escalades, digging the scene with a gangster lean”

So now all black people are gangsters who don’t pay taxes? And you wonder why people consider your movement racist.

“They’d be huddling in fear in mud huts waiting for Idi Amin, or some other deranged psycho to drag them out and cut their arms off because they won’t work in diamond...
I don’t care how obnoxious or arrogant professor Gates acted, he had the individual right and liberty to act as arrogantly as he wanted on his property; this is why the charges were dropped. I mean really, considering how the police accused Obama and Gates of maligning them, why would they drop the charges otherwise?

But none of this matters to most of the folks here. This is just another chance for the fringe to rail against a president they don’t like while also maligning African Americans who they falsely believe have unfair advantages in America. It’s truly a shame. There are some great intellectuals in the conservative movement like George Will, Ron Paul, and David Brooks. But the folks in this movement have allowed...
