-Hagel's outlook towards Iran. God forbid we have a secretary of defence who wants to take steps towards peace in the world. It doesn't take a geneius to understand that placing severe economic sanctions on Iran does nothing but foster more anti-American sentiment. Historically, sanctions have always caused more harm to the nation's people than it does their leadership. The reality of these sanctions is that they literally cause poverty in Iran. Iranians are not blind and we are givening them an excellent reason to hate us. If it happened here in the states, what do you think we would do? By the way, our CIA and DOD both still have NO evidence that Iran is producing nuclear weapons. They proclaim this themselves.

As the Senate prepares to hold a January 31 confirmation hearing for their former colleague Chuck Hagel to be the next Secretary of Defense, an alarming paradox has emerged.  Iran – the "Death to America" Islamic regime – is effusive with praise, while a large group of retired U.S. military commanders have "deep concerns" and have taken a highly unusual public position in opposition to Hagel's nomination.
