You are spot on, but your scenario would work ONLY is there were enough strong spines in Congress to do what you suggest, and knowing many politicians, that ain't gonna happen. We can work to convince those legislators to see it [your] way, and I hope for our republic they will.

In the 33 years I was self-employed, I had to, of course, make money or I would be OB...but I found that the more I did FOR the client/customer, the MORE money I made for myself. Doing the best you can do for others, lets others actually like what you do for them, and are willing to pay you for it.

There must be some way to take the present trend of demographics and CONVINCE them that the best way is the United Way...TOGETHER...and one way to start this is to eliminate all but the bare bones entitlements, and start offering huge amounts of INCENTIVES. Watch the eager swarm to again try and do things BETTER, and themselves better for it.

You can also make the same argument of what might happen if the 2nd Amendment were nullified. I for one would refuse, and I would be willing to let the idiots take "from my cold dead hands" which just might put the 2nd back as the law of the land, as such "settled law" would be forever law.

Dr. Sowell puts forth an article of undeniable truth, and the comments are mostly derisive of his observations...see, already the divide and quarantine all those with these views. The reality will be, when taken to their logical conclusion, is people demanding government take care of them, and government will abandon them, and take care of their own. No one reads history, no one remembers history, and therefore our own history will be discarded and forgotten.

A touching tribute. If only today's parents AND teachers could value individualism as the article showed, the country would be far better off, the population would be highly informed and adaptable and less inclined to need subsidies, and I'm sure many fewer wars would be fought because the arguments were settled intelligently. As a person heavily invested in the oil biz, both royalty and working wells, O'Reilly has it all muddled up as this author suggests...and I have mailed O'Reilly@foxnews.com on many occasions pointing his fallacious line of thought [I think Dobbs is brought in to help "authenticate" his position] but to no avail. Now places I go for service are complaining about the price of gas, I try and explain that the wellhead is not behind the gas station...to no avail...it's a straw boogieman...and O'reilly does nothing but ignite the straw.

My lawful self-defense weapon of choice is the good 'ol 38Special Snubby...I have 3 of them, one hammerless.
