And the controlling factor in BOTH your arguments - is PEOPLE. Until you regulate the actions of people by consequences you will never resolve a situation like Newtown CT and Aurora CO. What laws can be or have been passed that would have prevented either situation? In every instance of mass shootings in the past 20 years - you can trace it back to ONE single factor - mental instability. Until that specific issue is dealt with, you can pass law after law all you want about who can own, use, or posess guns and you'll get no where near resolving a situation like this in the future. Instead of guns, these idiots will use other forms of mass murder like crude chemical weapons, or crude bombs (like in Oklahoma city).

Please let us not forget that evil exists on this planet. The only way to prevent evil is to confront it, and if necessary dispatch it if it doesn't back down.

Think of all the lives that would have been saved if someone had stood up to Hitler instead of taking the position that "I believe we will have peace in our time."

The NRA met with Vice President Biden and the gun violence task force today as part of a series of meetings with key stakeholders in the gun debate. The NRA’s statement about the meeting confirms that that White House was never interested in having an honest, inclusive debate about how to prevent tragedies like Newtown from happening again, but rather, is focused on its “agenda to attack the Second Amendment.”
