I now live in Texas and have for nearly 40 years. But, I am originally from Illinois. I still have close childhood friends that live there and I visit them about once a year. Oddly, they are absolutely die hard, dedicated and vehement liberal Democrats. They are totally intolerant of any political opinion that runs counter to their liberal beliefs and any criticism of Obama or the Dems produces real anger in them. They simply refuse to admit that liberalism has brought Illinois to its knees. And, they are avid union supporters, abortions supporters, etc. I no longer understand them.......

Anon, I totally can sympathize with you. I am right-of-center while my entire circle of family, relatives and friends are lifelong, die-hard leftists. I've given up on them.

Anonymous - There's really no way to have a serious conversation or debate with these folks. When you inside a burning home, see the smoke and flames, and yet refuse to believe there is a problem, you are so delusional as to be beyond influence. I like to think of these folks as charter members of The Flat Earth Society. It doesn't matter what facts you present, they still see the world as flat.

When collapse comes, they will be the first to have a look of total bewilderment on their faces and be asking, "WTF".

"... I like to think of these folks as charter members of The Flat Earth Society..."

Good analogy! Leftists truly are delusional.

Not to mention that Democrats also cherry pick their facts; because no human is perfect it's possible to create a great list of GOP and independent peccadilloes. But as for their own? Aww, ya gotta do what ya gotta do on the way to political paradise!
Thanks, California! Thanks for your monstrous spending and absurd regulatory overreach! America needs you. We need Connecticut and Illinois, too! We need you the way we needed the Soviet Union, as models of failure, to warn us what happens if we believe those who say, "Government can."

Moving to California was once the dream for many Americans. Its population grew at almost triple the national average -- until 1990. Then big government, in the form of endless regulation and taxes, killed much of the dream. In the last decade, 2 million people left California.

Many of them moved to Alaska, Florida,...
