Not every American believes that are any gods. Why is that such a big deal?

Because the founders of this nation were firmly rooted in faith. People can say 'oh Ben Franklin was this... and Thomas Jefferson was a slave owner and that....' but what they miss out on is that the absence of faith is still faith even though it does not have a label. Actually it does have a label it is called Atheism which is faith in there not being a higher power. Have you ever been to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting? Read up on that and you would be surprised how often a higher power is mentioned to help them in their weakness.

As Chesterton said, if you stop believing in God, you start to believe in anything.

Does a prayer count if you purposely drop "God" out of a prayer? Yesterday during President Obama's unofficial inauguration ceremony, God was skipped over during a prayer given at the event.

Considering it was Democrats who dropped God from their platform and then booed loudly during the DNC convention when it was put back in, this isn't surprising however, we're in a world of trouble if you can't even say "God" during a prayer to none other than God.
