Obama may be the final step, but this transformation has been 30-40 years in the making. In that time the educational systems have been used to produce millions of "citizens" indoctrinated in leftist mythology, narrative, and thought patterns. This filter precludes any genuinely rational, objective consideration of the issues before us. I keep reading about how so many Americans are shocked that a man such as Obama could have been re-elected. It's not really shocking at all when you consider that what he stands for resonates perfectly with what so many have been taught their whole lives.

Longer than that, look up Marion Motton Thomas, he ran for pres back in the 50's and early 60's but gave it up when the DEMS adopted his platform
