While I agree wholeheartedly with Dr. Sowell, I'm afraid I disagree with his assumption that our citizenry would respond to clearly stated facts and historical evidence. We no longer live in a society that operates in this fashion. For the past 40 years or so, the news media, entertainment, & education industries have successfully created a narrative that is anchored in leftist emotionalism and imagery. Therefore, most of our population is not equipped to move through a discussion based in logic, precedent, & reason. They voted for Obama because he fit the narrative, not because they sat down and worked through the issues and ended up deciding he was the best person for the job.
If everyone in America had read Stephen Moore's new book, "Who's The Fairest of Them All?", Barack Obama would have lost the election in a landslide.

The point here is not to say, "Where was Stephen Moore when we needed him?" A more apt question might be, "Where was the whole economics profession when we needed them?" Where were the media? For that matter, where were the Republicans?
