If the Congress, Senate, Vice President & Presidents had to be part of the SS system, they would fix it in a heartbeat.

Actually at least the Congress was brought into the SS system in 1984 when the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) replaced the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS). The base of FERS is Social Security. Under the CSRS federal employees did not pay into Social Security.

But they haven't fixed it.

In response to my post Making Social Security Actuarially Sound in a Business-Friendly Manner I have been exchanging emails and phone conversations with Jed Graham at Investor's Business Daily.

Jed thinks benefit cuts will happen, and I agree. However, Social Security cuts are considered the "third rail" in politics.

If you are not familiar with the term, it means anyone espousing cuts cannot be elected.
