Loose Change and Propositions

"Marijuana prohibition enables and enriches criminal cartels and gangs. Californians have a chance to end the madness, and voters should grab it." Yes, California will become the new cartel smuggling pot to the rest of the states. What happens in California doesn't stay in California. But California may have more competition than just the Mexican cartels. Vicente Fox, Mexico's president wants a piece of the market as well. "If California legalizes marijuana, it may help Mexican peasant farmers, and boost Mexico's exports, he added. Such a move would be “a step toward saying to the peasant, ‘You can grow marijuana legally and export it,' ” Fox said. [Read more:...

I can't agree with you that Draper is a role model, but I will agree that "Don Draper is a fine combination of the savvy and (morally) stupid." What's interesting about the Mad Men ensemble is that they are human--with nobility, talents, defects, moral weaknesses. This was true with the Sopranos. These aren't people that you want to idolize or pattern your own life after. But, I think we can all see parts of ourselves in each character's weaknesses and can all dream of achieving their strengths. There are bits and pieces of ourselves and our acquaintances in each character which makes them strangely familiar and that familiarity feels strange. The bait on the end of the perfect hook.

If the there's a "wedding industrial complex," is there also a Quinceanera industrial complex? I've seen friends and acquaintances spend almost as much money and effort on them as on weddings. Are Quinceanera dresses expressions of latent heterosexism, or don't they count because they're the expressions of a protected cultural group?

P.S. I'm unhappy because, like a dope, I bought into the feminist b.s. pounded into me during the 70s. I was told that I could do everything and have everything. All the effort I expended trying to prove this theory right just made me tired, frustrated and disillusioned. Kinda like waking up the day after the wedding and discovering the you were sold an illusion... only this illusion was sold by...

The State Budget Mess -- Continued

So, we should get rid of the 2/3 vote and go back to a simple majority? Oh joy! Then my taxes will be raised to pay for every illegal alien to have a car in their garage and a chicken in every pot, sex change operations for anyone who wants one, free bath house passes for the Castro District, etc. I'll be forced to buy a Prius, move to a studio apartment in a transit village, and to wear a gas mask so that I don't breathe out CO2. Simple majority vote? Game over, Dems win, utopia will be achieved. And I will flee the state.

"Any activist can... record some stupid quotes." This has already happened. Remember George Allen's macaca moment? S.R. Siddarth was an operative who had been shadowing Allen waiting for a "gotcha" moment. Sarah Palin got sandbagged by Katie Couric and Charles Gibson. If you're a public figure or interact with the public, you would be stupid not to assume that every word and action was being scrutinized.
Even if the San Bernardino employee didn't kill her husband, there's something wrong with her for making the story up, bragging about it and encouraging others to commit crimes. I would not want someone who would lie about killing another human being on my payroll. 60 Minutes should be investigating this, but they ARE NOT and WILL...
