Who else thinks that taking affordable cars off the road is part of the plan to push public transportation? I predict two years from now, there will be a much higher "demand" for those stupid trains--and the shovel-ready infrastructure they require.

MTV Acts Responsibly?

I saw 16 and Pregnant and loved it. The most significant line was when one of the teen moms, Ebony, said plainly "I'm starting to wonder why I gave up so much just to end up here."
Smart, simple, honest and told in a compelling way.

Is There a Co-Pay with Forced Abortion?

I plan on visiting pro-choice websites and posting with this headline. Anti-choice is the only way to describe someone who would like government to decide who gets to carry a pregnancy and who does not. There are extremists in pro-choice circles, but many will listen to reason when framed properly.

Health-Care Competition

Doctors do not make money on tests. Labs make money on tests.

And no, for the most part, people do not know what the doctor or hospital charges the insurance company. If the government were in charge, we commoners would not know how much the government allowed the hospitals to be paid...by the government.

Insurance Is No Answer

Anna10 Wrote: Jul 08, 2009 9:13 AM
That same exact think has happened to me many times. I haven't had insurance on myself and my husband for about 5 years. For the first few years I didn't go to the doctor at all, because I thought you had to have insurance. The doc-in-the-box urgent care center places are expensive too. So finally, when I was feeling sick, and a friend suggested I get my thyroid checked, I just used googlemaps to find private practice docs in my area and called them up, asking each one what price they offered for uninsured patients.

Competition at work! I told one receptionist that $195 seemed high, because I had heard $120 at the last one-pause-"Yes, but our $195 comes with cheaper labs because we do them here on site." Suddenly, I had...

Cash for Clunkers

Anna10 Wrote: Aug 08, 2009 10:28 AM
The young single moms I work with are going to be so hurt by this. The two really spoiled have perfectly decent "clunkers" they either bought from or were given by their parents, cars with no payments, and they are going to trade them in for cars with payments, which will be more expensive to insure, but they are saying "I will save sooo much in gas!" Ergh.

The one that has been driving a $1000 car older than she is won't be trading it in--but what will she do when this clunker final gives out? Her brother won't be able to go get a part to fix it from a salvage yard if they crush all the "clunkers". And she will likely be priced out of the market if there are fewer available cars and the remaining ones are newer and more...

Still a Good Question: Why Biden?

Has Biden always been like this, or is he sliding into dementia? My grandmother, shortly before she became totally incoherent, went through a period of make-everyone-squirm truthtelling.

America's Least Wanted

It is not exceptional for a young person living in a major city to know punks, commies, liberals etc....that and the fact that he is undeniably a likable, socially adept guy might make him well positioned to deal drugs--but only if the punks, commies, etc. have cash and want drugs, and if you can get a hookup from a big supplier. Given that street gangs are the biggest suppliers, and there is no evidence Obama hung with gangbangers, it seems unlikely.

And the oft-trotted out quotes from his book only show that he used drugs, and knew the intended purpose of smoking pot. So what? That makes him a drug user, or, I believe, a former drug user. There is a huge difference between a user and a dealer.

Mr. President has...

America's Least Wanted

Michael--High school is populated by children, save for a smattering of 18yearold seniors. Parents have a right to not have the values they teach their children undermined by educators handing out condoms. Needle park is full of pathetic, pitiable adults, who are responsible for what freebies they will or will not take, not children.

Jeffersonite--It's unfortunate the way law enforcement is slinking toward prohibition on alcohol and merciful, powerful painkillers for suffering patients. That, however is a separate issue from these kind people's act of mercy in providing not just clean needles but sober human contact for these poor souls.
Your math does not make sense either. If the park has 100 addicts and 50 needles,...
