In response to:

Thankful for My Comrades, All of Them

Thanks, Mr.Ransom for including me in your Sunday 'rogue's gallery' , Kind of a honor, I guess. One question though: HOW does my equating 'moral character' with a leader's 'fitness to lead' 'entitle me' for the accolade COMRADE? Moral character crosses political, racial, class and economic barriers. If moral character has no bearing on a leader's ability to lead, Congress owes both Nixon and Clinton a formal written apology. If standing for 'moral character' makes me a 'COMRADE' in your eyes, I will wear the title proudly...

Think of the "comrades" getting ready to stone the prostitute.

Don't get my meaning wrong. Standards are good. We should all have high ones, but we are all sinners. Every last one of us has failures of character. I am not defending Patraeus or Allen. I have other reasons, based on their duty actions, that cause me great concern. Hell, Patton slapped a man and called him a coward for the sin (in Patton's mind) of being shell-shocked. We are humans and that comes with warts. Sometimes to get stuff done, we have to accept the leadership from very warty people. If we only accept leadership from those worthy of pedestals, we have the current Republicans and Republican electorate to some degree.

Thanks for the thoughtful response; the analogy with the woman caught in adultery (John 8) doesn't quite hold up in this situation. We are not talking about a frightened woman that a bunch of hypocrites wanted to stone so they could feel good about themselves (WHERE was the 'man', if she was 'caught in the act?), we are talking about a 4-star general, at the very top of the military food chain to whom MUCH has been given (including overseeing a very hurting, un-successful military action 12,000 miles from home), and MUCH is required, including responsible use of his time while on duty.

Dear Comrade Doctor,

You have cause and effect jumbled up as most liberal ground troops...
