The Student-Loan Scam

By providing FREE roads in the Interstates, the government has created a surplus of highway drivers with a limited amount of highway. The result is rush hour traffic jams. In a scenario where the highways were provided by a private entity charging for use, only those that absolutely HAD to use the highway at rush hour would be willing to pay the rush hour rate. People would carpool VOLUNTARILY because it would make economic sense. Traffic would thin out during Rush hour because there would be less traffic. People going to work would pay the going rate at rush hour, people shopping or traveling at leisure would wait for less expensive fares at less congested times of the day. No traffic problems, thanks to the miracle of the free market.

What "explosion" are you referring to? The majority of large colleges today are not "for profit" in any way shape or form. They rely on government handouts and donations from Alumni to fund themselves. No sane for profit enterprise could come up with such a ridiculous notion as tenure. Faculty are over payed and under productive in this arrangement. It also prevents the cream of the teaching profession from rising to the top. A for profit college with margins to meet simply cannot operate in a climate such as this.

If the free market were allowed to work its magic in higher education the competition it fostered would drive tuition down to a level where government funded student loans backed on the taxpayers dime would no longer be necessary.

Oil-Rich America?

Every ten years since the 1920's or even earlier, "experts" have predicted that we had reached the end of the line on oil reserves. They were wrong every time. And even if we were to use it all, so what? Kerosene did not become a viable source of lamp fuel until an extreme shortage of whale oil forced people to search for an alternative. This is the fatal flaw of the "Green Energy" movement. Until we are forced to find an alternative for oil, coal, and natural gas by a market based shortage and not a politically contrived one, Green energy will be a failure. There is not a big enough market for it to support a private enterprise, and government subsidized green energy has been a horrible failure.
Exactly. If solar power was a viable alternative to fossil fuels some rich greedy capitalist in the private sector would already be a billionaire by his own effort without wasting over half a trillion dollars in taxpayer money.
Small fires are a natural part of a forest's ecosystem and clear out dead wood and overgrowth to permit new trees room to grow. Leftist environmental groups lobby for legislation to prohibit landowners from clearing this dead fuel from their land. Massive fires are the inevitable result after 30 years of this poor stewardship being forced upon the environment..

Hal is a real life version of the Hap Shaughnessy character on The Red Green show. Hap boasted of such feats as filling in for Keith Richards in the Rolling Stones when Keith hit the bottle too hard or doing hand to flipper combat with the white whale Moby Richard for 20 or 30 months. Utterly incapable of telling the truth both Hap and Hal's stories get more and more outlandish until they become a parody of real life.

The thinking in this article is the reason that the same 535 fool legislators who have been bankrupting our country get reelected to office time after time, and that we get different Presidents who give us the same results. Surely in a country of 350 million people there are folks outside the political realm who could do a much better job than the 536 currently in the Executive and Legislative branches. Herman Cain's political inexperience should be touted as his biggest strength. Business experience counts as executive experience as well as being a governor, that is why they are called business executives. However, one title is in the public sector that has a reputation for being inefficient and hostile to business. Cain has run a...

Spot on, tibby. Environmentalism is not pro environment, it is anti-human. Humans cannot survive without exerting their influence on the environment, the only creatures in existence with that distinction. To require humans NOT to exert influence on their environment is to doom them to die a horrible death.
