Do Gun Bans Curb Violent Crime? (Part 2 of 3 on Reducing Violent Crime in the US)

Every time the left spouts out about gun control, the right should respond by calling for a faster and more efficient death penalty for murder. After conviction, and with federal appeals, a condemned killer should be executed within two years after sentencing. This can be achieved with some common sense changes to criminal procedure. First is that appeals automatically move to the head of the federal docket with strict limits on appeal delays. Second that federal judges can only overturn by exoneration. Third, that states are declared "competent" to execute, so how they do it is not open for federal argument.

I have heard it said that the death penalty does not deter murder, well I have never heard of an executed murderer reafending... When are we going to reach a point where we can no longer afford to pay millions of dollars keeping all the criminals in jail... Maybe it is time for them to support themselves. Of course then maybe they would figure out that they should just get a job on the outside and not rob and steal. It is scary for them to spend their time "buffing up" working out in their well equiped gyms. Prison should not be fun!!

I also believe we should re-think our approach to crime. I dislike graffiti and believe that it could be stopped overnight if when you caught the person, that since they like to paint, their sentence would be to repaint all the walls with graffiti on them till the next offender is caught. I don't think you would have any re-offenders. Vandalism should be dealt with the offender being required to either clean it up or replace it. Not the parents but the kid.. He might think twice next time.

Great idea...I'm tired of hearing about parents bailing their kids out of the problems they cause. They should not escape unscathed at other's expense.

Why not include the parents in the clean up. They'll watch their kid better from then on.
Who isn't sickened by the moral decay and heinous acts of violence across our country? My heart and prayers continue to go out to victims everywhere.

But do gun bans -- such as the one proposed this past week by Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., which would outlaw 120 specific firearms -- curb violent crime?

Not according to a recent Fox News investigation titled "Assault-weapons ban no guarantee mass shootings would decrease, data shows." The report concluded, "Data published earlier this year showed that while the (Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, which was signed by President Bill Clinton) was in place, from...
