cane up here in WY we've had Constitutional Carry since last July. Know how many "shootouts we've had since then? None, zero, zip, nada....Not even during rodeo season when drinking is very high.

Drinking and shooting, sounds like a winning combination. But seriously Amy what do have against holding people accountable for the guns they own or the guns they sell. Serious background checks and limiting the size and scope of powerful weapons is only common sense.

Well we have "serious" background checks in CT anyway. I just went through it over the summer.

limiting "the size and scope of powerful weapons" does not make sense to me.

Canetoad, do you have your kitchen knives secured under lock and key? How about your household cleaners? Your cooking oils? Is the butter in your refrigerator properly secured? Are all walls in your household padded, with no sharp corners? Is there no object smaller than 5 centimeters in your household where a child may come into contact with it?

When you have done all of this for the sake of the children that live in, or might happen to wander into your dwelling - then you may have a basis to set standards for everyone else.

Oh, and by the way - securing your butter is only half-sarcastic. Damn near was killed by my toddler daughter who thought the kitchen floor needed a wax job (and of course could not get at the actual wax). I sailed right through the kitchen and was only saved by the fact that the balcony screen was closed.

Just about any d*mn thing can kill your small child, yourself, your pet, an innocent bystander...

Yeah, he really said this:

Where did he get this idea? Jack Coleman over at NewsBusters thinks the claim originated from a Mother Jones article written in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting, but Schultz doesn’t source the statement. The Mother Jones report states: “In the wake of the slaughters this summer at a Colorado movie theater and a Sikh temple in Wisconsin, we set out to track mass shootings in the United States over the last 30 years. We identified and analyzed...
