At no time in today's discussion have I suggested banning ANYTHING.

What I AM suggesting is that unless a person has a very specific reason to own a firearm (hunting, live in a dangerous neighborhood, etc.), they are better off not having one in their home.

One of the founding fathers (I think it was George Washington) said that the primary reason for the Second Amendment was to insure that the people retain the ability to defend themselves against those who would impose tyranny upon them, including their own government. Considering the 100+ million people who have been murdered by their own governments following imposition of gun control laws since 1900, I consider that a pretty compelling reason.
