he leaps of assumption you make in this statement are awesome in their ignorance eric. Pray tell where are you getting in intel for the basis for your assumptions? Why are you assuming that Kyle was carrying his person side arm in condition 1 at the range? What, exactly, do you know about the situation that developed at the range? This is the latest I've seen about the tragic loss of SeAL Kyle.... Police said Routh opened fire on Kyle and Littlefield around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, and then fled in a Ford pickup truck, which Bryant said was Kyle's truck. At about 8 p.m., Routh arrived at his home in Lancaster, about 17 miles southeast of Dallas. Police arrested him after a brief pursuit and took him to the Lancaster Police Department.

That was updated about 10 mins ago. It hasn't even been 24 hours since the shooting & you're off on your hobby horse eric.

Of course carrying a weapon isn't _the_ answer to personal safety, they are just one of the options that should be coupled with situational awareness & other ways we can keep ourselves safe in a hostile & dangerous world.

Amy,

You raise an interesting issue. You see it as a "hostile & dangerous world". I see it as dangerous, but not especially hostile. It's dangerous because there are way too many people out there driving while drunk or while texting. They scare me far more than criminal assault.

I know full well there are some really evil people out there. But since they generally look like everyone else, I also know the odds of my successfully protecting myself from a surprise attack by a bad guy are not very good. As you say, situational awareness is paramount.

Vice President Biden unfurled his genius during a Google+ “fireside” hangout last month stating that having “armed guards in schools would be a terrible mistake.”

Really, José? Why don’t you rock up to Price Middle School in Atlanta on Monday morning and bray that insanity to the teachers and students who were spared an early grave because an armed guard took out the latest Lanza wannabe before he could waylay his peers?

Oh, I’m sorry. Y’all haven’t heard about the armed guard taking down a shooter who passed his gun through the metal detectors at an Atlanta...
