The House should call Obama's bluff. Pass an extension of the Bush Tax rates through July 2016, (summer before the next Presidential election). Then go out in a group and announce to the American people that they have voted to keep the taxes the same for the middle class - and everyone else. Make the Democrats stop the bill in the Senate, or let Obama veto the bill if the Senate passes it. See if Obama and the Democrats have the nerve to do that. If they block the extension, every Republican in the House and Senate should call a press conference and point out over and over that Obama and the Democrats have raised taxes on the middle class and everyone else.

I agree. Let THEM take the blame,let it be THEIR action that increased everyone's taxes.

the only problem is that the MEDIA will be complicit in twisting it so that people think it was Republicans fault.

With no time to recover from a thorough election day whooping, Republicans in a lame duck Congress are facing an even worse budgetary nightmare than last year. And they only have two months to negotiate a solution with President Obama.

Last time, as the Chair the Balanced Budget Amendment campaign, fellow conservatives and I were urging Republicans to tie the unavoidable increase in the debt ceiling to a balanced budget amendment. Because it also prohibited tax increases, the amendment would have required balance to be achieved through necessary cuts throughout the federal government.
