Assault weapons cannot be defined. Unless a weapon is used in an assault, it cannot be an "assault weapon." Since I have never ever used any of my weapons in an assault and since I keep them only for self-defense, I have semi-automatic "self-defense weapons", not "assault weapons."

Unless the Democrats also split into another, more liberal, party they'd keep the 47% - 50% they have now, the Republicans and new Conservative Party would split the other 50% to 53% and conservatives would lose every single election until we got back together again.

How about splitting the issues and immediately pass a bill (in the House and send it to the Senate) which does nothing except secure the border. Tell the comprehensive reform folks we'll figure that part out only AFTER the border is secured.

I do not believe we need to form another conservative party. We need to make the Republican Party more conservative. Forming another party would most likely split the conservative vote and dilute the strength of the conservative movement.
