Five days from now the voters of New Jersey and Virginia will elect governors. Voters in the 23rd district of New York and the 10th district of California will elect new members of the House of Representatives to replace incumbents, a Republican and a Democrat, who were appointed to positions in the Obama Defense and State departments.
All four of these constituencies voted for Barack Obama 51 weeks ago. Obama won 57 percent of the vote in New Jersey, 53 percent (his national average) in Virginia, 52 percent in New York 23 and 65 percent in California 10.

Four Races Will Test the Strength of Obama's Majority
"But you can count on the Obama administration taking credit when the races are over if Virginia is the only Republican victory."
I disagree strongly with your assessment here.
Virginia was held up by the Democrats precisely because it voted for Republican presidential candidates since 1964. Obama won this state by 7 points in 2008.
For this particular race to curb so strongly republican so soon after the last election cycle speaks volumes.
While Obama's proselytes may make noise about NY, CA, and NJ, the fact that VA is trending as it is cannot be ignored.
Do I think conservatives and republicans will be smart enough to read the tea leaves and act accordingly?
Hell no.
